Although needed in smaller amounts than macronutrients, micronutrients play a powerful role in human development and well-being. Most micronutrients are minimally produced or not produced at all in the body and must come from the diet. Consuming a variety of foods that contain micronutrients is important, as micronutrient deficiencies can have consequences, especially for mom and baby.
